When The Australians Went Decimal

Back in February 1966 Australia changed its currency and went decimal. Out went Australian Pounds, Shillings and Pence to be replaced with Australian Dollars and Cents. Two new Dollars would be equivalent to one old Pound.

To educate the citizens of Australia about the change the government came up with a short animated film which included a catchy song. This has found its way onto YouTube and I thought it worth sharing below.

It would be another five years before us British caught up with Australia and converted to decimal currency. In 1971 we kept the Pound Sterling and just issued the New Penny at a rate of one hundred to the Pound.
