Cupid’s Dart, by David Nobbs

There is a comedy play I remember being shown on television back in the 1980s which starred Robin Bailey as a middle aged academic who meets and forms an unlikely friendship, bordering on a relationship, with a young darts groupie who was played by Leslie Ash.

As it had stuck in my memory I decided to look it up and found it was called Cupid’s Dart and was shown in 1981 on ITV, Westward Television down here in the South West. I recall it being funny so I was not surprised to see it had been written by David Nobbs who was responsible for creating the classic 1970s BBC sitcom The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin.

I was intrigued to see that David Nobbs had revisited the story in the twenty first century, substantially updating and expanding it, for a book version of the story.
