Phill, Bagpuss and Friends, a tribute to the work of Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin

Many of us grew up watching animations on television created by Smallfilms, the partnership between Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin.

Remember Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine, the Clangers, Bagpuss? My personal favourite was Pogles’ Wood broadcast on the BBC under the Watch With Mother banner.

I was delighted to discover a video on line called Phill, Bagpuss and Friends: Celebrating 50 years of Smallfilms. Filmed at the Encounters Festival in Bristol five years ago in 2008 Phill Jupitas hosts a discussion of all things Smallfilms with stop-motion animator Barry Purves and Smallfilms’ archivist ‘Loaf’.

If you loved these television programmes as a child then the film is well worth a look.
